Who We Are

Engineering for Kids Day
Pi Tau Sigma is a Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, instituted in order to establish a closer bond of fellowship among its members. Its goal is the mutual benefit of those men and women in the study and in the profession of mechanical engineering. Pi Tau Sigma's core values are:

  • Integrity - soundness of character and moral conduct
  • Service - serving the mechanical engineering profession and the community
  • Leadership - being foremost and fostering initiative through example in a professional manner

"A Mechanical Engineering Honor Society striving to create better engineers through committment to academic excellence and dedication to service..."

Pi Tau Sigma is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. There are presently 130+ active chapters at universities in almost every state of the United States. The concept of Pi Tau Sigma was initiated simultaneously at the University of Illionois and at the University of Wisconsin in 1915. Pi Tau Sigma was formed in 1916 by these two schools and the Pi Omega chapter at UC Berkeley was founded in 1949. PTS continues to be a source of leadership development, engineering ideals, and career connections.

Being the Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, only Juniors in the top fourth of their class and Seniors in the top third of their class are eligible for membership. The Mechanical Engineering department at UC Berkeley is one of the highest ranked in the nation (U.S. News) and our members represent the top students in this department

What We Do

Getting ready for Robot Wranglers
Each semester, our society organizes events for members, students, sponsors and our community.

Our activities include educational and social events for members as well as the general student population, which prepare them for their future endeavors and establish long-lasting relationships among their peers.

In addition, through info-sessions and company presentations, we offer a way for our members and students to establish contact with and learn more about our sponsors and industry leaders.

We also organize outreach and community service programs in Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay area: our current Lego Mindstorms?outreach program aims to introduce the concepts of engineering, technology and learning to the youth of our community; furthermore, we serve our local community by providing tutors and mentors to students at Berkeley High School.

Lastly, we coordinate fundraising efforts to provide our society with funding for our programs and exhibit the pride we hold in our college and in being members of the engineering field.

Why Choose PTS

Professor Frenklach
We see sponsorship by an engineering industry as an excellent opportunity for both parties to collaborate.

In return for your company’s support, our society can provide several services. We coordinate on-campus information sessions that are an excellent means for your company to meet students for prospective employment and to establish contact with the Berkeley Engineering community. Also, each semester we publish a resume book of all our members that is available to our sponsors. Among our members you will find many eligible, outstanding candidates to meet your company’s needs for qualified mechanical engineers. In addition to the publicity provided by info-sessions, we can help with further publicity by advertising throughout the semester and posting a link to your company’s website on our home page.

About This Website
This is the 6th version of the ΠΤΣ website. The current web designer is Somi Park. If you are interested in the web design position or any other ΠΤΣ officer position, elections are held at the end of every semester!

This website is hosted by the Open Computing Facility (OCF). The OCF is an all-volunteer, student-run, student-initiated service group dedicated to free computing for all University of California at Berkeley students, faculty, and staff.
